The Dachshund is a playful dog and is also known for chasing small furry animals, even if brought up with them. Because dachshunds can also be quite stubborn, it can be a challenge to train them so strong will is needed. Dachshunds are very loyal, protective dogs and can be aggressive or very stand offish to strangers and other dogs. If left alone for too long, these dogs have a tendency to chew due to separation anxiety. Dachshunds do like to bark which does come in handy for alerting you to visitors, even though they don’t think they are as small as they are. Dachshunds are natural burrowers so it may be an idea to give up some garden for them to dig and in the house a few blankets for them to burrow keeps them entertained. A bored, untrained dachshund can be a destructive one as an unsocialised dachshund can be an aggressive or fearful one. These come in two sizes: standard and miniature. They also come in 3 types: long haired, smooth haired and wirehaired. They come in many colours, such as: black/tan, chocolate/tan, shaded red/cream, dapples, and brindle.
